Digesters (Vermicomposting)

We began to research the field of vermiculture back in 2003, establishing our first beds in 2006. Since then we have continued to conduct research into worm breeding and food waste composting using worms, and are now able to offer an on-site modular worm digestion system.

The use of worms for digesting organic waste (such as vegetable wastes, paper wastes, etc) is known as vermicomposting. This can be carried out in a variety of different ways and using a variety of different methods. Vermicomposting is widely used in other countries around the world, and has immense potential to reduce the waste we send to landfill in this country too.

In addition to providing an environmentally-friendly way to dispose of organic waste, worms produce vermicompost which has a much higher value than the compost produced by standard composting methods, and can be blended with green composts to add value to them - thus providing additional income from the waste stream.

Unlike accelerated composting systems, the vermicompost produced by digestion systems is a finished product that is ready to use as soon as the worms have produced it. There is no maturation period.

We can supply a modular worm digestion system capable of dealing with food, equestrian, paper and other waste products.

Please note that whilst vermicompost shares some of the characteristics of wormcast, the two products should not be confused. Wormcast takes years to produce and contains a substantially higher microbial population than vermicompost.
